The 16 Guidelines for Life

Amitabha Hospice offers 16 Guidelines workshops in our premises or in other venues as requested.
These workshops are interactive and they help to explore a path for a better living increasing mindfulness and smart thinking.

We also sell the book and cards for $25 per pack. Please contact us if you would like to purchase them.

The 16 Guidelines are:

Humility – Patience – Contentment - Delight

they empower us to restructure the way we think

Kindness – Honesty – Generosity – Right Speech

they empower us to restructure the way we act

Respect – Forgiveness – Gratitude - Loyalty

they empower us to restructure the way we relate to others

Aspiration – Principles – Service - Courage

they empower us to restructure the way we find meaning


The 16 Guidelines provide a robust framework for reflecting on the way we think, speak and act, and for creating the causes to experience happiness and meaning. Inspired by a seventh-century Tibetan text, they offer a presentation of universal wisdom, which is suitable for people of all ages, cultures and traditions. They are a contemporary presentation of ancient wisdom.

The 16 Guidelines were launched in 2006. Since then, they have been adopted and introduced in schools, colleges, hospices, drug rehab centres, prisons and workplaces across five continents.

The 16 Guidelines are part of a non-profit initiative called The Foundation of Developing Compassion and Wisdom, which proposes that developing our natural capacity for compassion and wisdom is the key to making our lives happier and more peaceful – and to being able to make a positive contribution in the world.
