Darlin Ecie & William,
Thank you SO MUCH for all your help and spiritual advice for Ashlea. She is doing well & we just had a three day camp-out with her & lots of the wonderful young people she grew up with. It was a wedding celebration; Ash was a beautiful bridesmaid and Angel was here for whole week & Shawn was with us, too. Lots of great music and laughter!!!
It is winter in NZ & mid-summer in MT. We slept out on the trampoline last night & will tonight, too.......... to watch the meteor showers...Rick saw 17 shooting stars last night...I only saw 3, but one was so gorgeous!!! WE LOVE YOU !!!! |

I feel blessed that I have been able to share your experiences. I thank you for showing me and others how to live the Dharma in this realm of suffering. I send you both big hugs, and Great Love and keep you in my prayers, Ani Desal |

Dearest Darlin Ecie and William,
What incredible, fabulous news.....you're going HOME !! It's been a long hard trip, but the best part is always coming home. We had an amazing trip to see Angel graduate from Yale & a bonus was, she graduated with Paul McCartney! He received an honorary degree in music and Angel was lined up with the other students when she heard a murmuring behind her, it was Paul walking beside the line , so when he was near her she jumped out and shook his hand & they exchanged grins! I've been crazy busy & immediately after school was done, I started working full-time @ a camp for homeless & @ risk kids - my third summer I LOVE IT !! We do super fun and adventurous things with them; overnight backpack trips, swimming, hiking, horseback riding, whitewater rafting, tie-dying, ceramics, etc.

Hi Ecie,
We've been off line for a week, down in Nottingham receiving teachings from HHDL (amazing!!) and such alot has happened with you in this time....can't keep our eye off you for minute eh!!!
So good that the pain levels are now manageable and I'm sure with all your courage and determination (and all the prayers engulfing you) the foot will work out.
As ever you are SUCH an inspiration.... we often find ourselves Ecie quoting. Actually it happend at the recent teachings....we could only get sits at the back of a very large arena, so many distractions and Carole turned round and said "see we should listen to Ecie when she told us to always get as close to the front as possible, because there are too many distractions from the teachings near the back". Not earth shattering, but wise words we forgot to take heed of!!!!!!
We hold you in our hearts and wish we were in NZ so we could visit you.
Heaps of love from Bonny Scotland

Dear Ecie & William,
I must have clicked something wrong a minute ago. Just wanting to tell you again I think of you & pray for your successful recovery every day and I REJOICE that you have finally had a weekend at home. I can only imagine the resistance to returning to the rehab center - but William is right, about it being a 'job' now and you should do it like a job and then relax. Hmmm, now if only I could follow my own advice! It is spring here, finally tiny leaves appearing on the trees, and getting fuller from morning to evening. I spent the day trying to figure out how to enlarge the garden AND put up enough of a fence to keep the deer from eating everything I plant. The greenhouse is filling up fast, and the tender tomatoes & squash are overflowing the grow lights in the house. Amazing how fast these plant move.
Lots of love, prayers, & wishes for a rapid return to home base,
Susan |

Dearest Ecie William & Beautiful Family,
Greetings from springtime in the Rocky Mountains....Rick took off for work on his motorcycle in a gossamer shower of rain. When I let my precious 33 year old horse, Cobalt, out of the corral he galloped gaily all the way to the other horses grazing in the far pasture, where we have had a herd of elk visiting in their springtime ritual of enjoying the fresh grass through the night & then slipping back into the trees & across the river at first light.
Perseverance furthers! Praying that the head orthopod will schedule your hip surgery before his holiday!! Did you get to visit HOME yet?? If not, it will be soon!!! All our Love,

I am so pleased to hear about all the progress you have made lately. I have been thinking about you a lot since Joseph let me know, and have just read the complete diary of the last two months plus. I'm glad Joseph is there to look after you - and not surprised to hear that the nurses are inquiring about his marriage prospects :) Keep up all those disco arm exercises! You slip toward Autumn there, and we are well into Spring here in Santa Cruz. Tulips are finished, plum trees too, but the crabapples are fantastic; little white skirts with pink trim. The apple tree in our front yard is just opening its first buds. Soon we will be into the time of "Flower Snow", our walk covered in a white blanket of petals. And then, in early Summer, the apples!
May we each see many more turnings of the planet, greeting the dawn joyfully, with a smile born of wisdom, compassion and deep knowledge, understanding the flow, sitting undisturbed. That place.
Heal, Ecie, and grow strong again. I send my love to you, William, embracing your patience and endurance. Care for yourself too.

Dear Ecie and William.
I rejoice with you at your progress. Many thanks to William for the blog, which is a tool with many uses: information, consolation, teaching, wisdom and humour. I am from Chandrakirti, Ecie. We watched your pilgrimage film to Tibet together. Lozang gives me sometimes updates as well.
On Wednesday we held a vigil for the Tibetans, which are incarcerated or have died over the last week. Lozang and Kahla came to Motueka and supported our vigil there. There were so many cars tooting for a 'Free Tibet" or motorists giving us salutory signs. Lozang stood on a fence pole holding a bamboo pole with prayerflags, as the rest were waving 'Free Tibet" placards.
I pray every day for you to Lord Medicine Buddha that you may become well again, and be the tower of strength once more for your family and many others. With love from Danuta Glendenning, husband Duncan and boarder Connie. |

| To Ecie, About 3 years ago, my mother-in-law had two massive strokes. The second was on the helicopter life-flight to the local trauma center. A priest there gave her last rights. She was a vegetable for about 2 months. To make a long story Positive, within a year, she was bakc to 75% of her old cranky self and is now 99% of her grumpy old self. Oddly, about the only thing that changed was that she lost her sense of taste. (Bite my own tongue here...) Best wishes to you and yours!!! Paul Stevenson, a student of LZR. |

Hello Wonderfulest,
Finally got to see the DVD Mystic Tibet. This is the one by Christina about our trip to Tibet. It was so inspiring! I can hardly wait for us to go on another trip. There is an international meeting in France next year so get well soon.
Oh, I took a level 1 Reiki class last weekend. Does anyone there do Reiki?
Super great that you are getting out of the room.
Big Love,

| William, is there a nursery for newborns with a glass ovservation area in Ecie's health center? THAT part of the hospital generally makes makes a really nice goal. When Ecie is a little sturdier, you can take her to the pediatrics ward, but she can't play yet--except in her mind. Much love, A.-la |

Dear William, Ecie and loving family
Nice to see you the other day Ecie-la along with your caring and compassionate Bodhisattva son Joesph, and to be able to reflect on how awesome it has been, despite this suffering far worse than most of us can even imagine, unfathomable, more terrible that you have had to bear with this flowering of past karmic causes.
How amazing it is that so many people are connected to you, through this blog and that we are praying and spreading the dharma as well as wishing you a rapid flourishing health from the four corners of the world, as the maori say, Nga Hau E Wha.
It was lovely to see you sister. You are doing very well thanks to the love of your family, your extended family and because as you said, you are in your guru's heart. And he has written you so.
I dedicate all this love, this compassion and all this goodwill to all sentient beings. May they be free from suffering, all of it, and from the effects of samsaric life.
See you soon and rest in the firm knowledge all is well at Amitabha and all the people who read this will support us in ensuring it is so.
Arohatinonui, Love and peace

Dear Ecie,
I don't know you but got the vajra cutter sutra from my LYWA newsletter and have been reciting it for you pretty much daily as well as monitoring your progress. Today I was inspired by Lama Yeshe's quote about the mind and want to share something my mother did.
A few years back she slipped on a patch of ice and badly shattered her shoulder - socket included. What followed were surgeries, nails, plates, I don't need to tell you :) and the diagnosis that she would never be able to move her arm upwards beyond a 45 degree angle. (Just try to comb your hair that way!) Should she succeed to raise it shoulder height at 70 years old she would be considered a miracle. Bravely screaming her way through countless hours of physical therapy she achieved that 90 degree angle after 4 months. (Combing your hair gets doable) Considered medical miracle she happily kept to her daily routine of prayer, meditation and physical exercises, improving to about 120 degrees where she reached a plateau. (Combing your hair is a breeze) Then, maybe 6 months later she calls me excitedly - the following are her words: "This morning I had an epiphany while doing my practice. I realized the problem was not my shoulder but my mind. I allowed the doctors to condition me to believe I could never fully raise my arm and today I thought, well, if the problem was my arm, according to them I could barely raise it at all so that can't be it. Therefore the problem must be my mind and in that case I CAN do something about it. And with this realization I simply raised my arm above my head..."
Needless to say my mom is a very stubborn person and a sincere practitioner - happily using her arm to the fullest...
May your recovery continue to be swift - I look forward to a picture of you sitting cross-legged :) - aurelia |

On this Buddha Day when merit is much multiplied, I am happy to have made a donation to Amitabha Hospice (thanks for the donation information on the Hospice website -- makes it easy!).
May the Hospice be stable and harmonious. May its activities flourish and be of immense benefit to those it cares for, their families and to all the volunteers who make it possible. And especially, I dedicate whatever merit there is in this small action to Ecie's complete recovery, that she may be free of mental suffering, that she may continue to receive all the care and expert intervention she needs and that this experience may be nothing less than a cause for swift enlightenment for her, for her family and for all those people around the world whose prayers and practices are being dedicated to the same goal. |

i am humbled to tears by the love between you two, that is pooring out of your words William!!!
I am still checking on your reports with little gaps as i am travelling yet again with my little camper.
I just want to share a little 'synchronicity": when i first heard about the accident, i wished i could talk to my spiritual teacher in india and ask for prayers... but didn't have any hope to reach her; then the very same day as i logged onto my gmail, there she was online ( which has never happened before or since) and i could chat with her and she assured me, that she is sending her prayers to you, dear Ecie, and your wonderful family! i remembered then, miracles do happen, in fact they are all around us!!!
Thinking much of you and sending you my love and prayers
blessings

We want you to know Japan’s Do Ngak Sung Juk (DNSJ) center read 110 Diamond Cutter Sutras (in English and Japanese) for your recovery. We’re very sorry for what you’re going through, but appreciate LZRinpoche’s guidance in suggesting how we can at least be of some help.
Hopefully it helps you mentally and physically to know that people around the world in their various languages are cheering, praying and sending lots of healing light for your recovery. We hope your family gets strength from that, too.

Dear William & Ecie,
We've been away down country and have just had a chance to catch up with your situation. The bone photos are scary.
We went to the funeral of a relative. A lovely, quiet, dignified lady (87yrs) who had touched so many people with her kindness and affection. There were masses at the funeral and I know that she would have been stunned to see so many people there and she would have denied that she had ever done anything more than just listen to their problems. I guess that this is the way with people of this ilk, like you Ecie, they just go about doing what they do, seemingly unaware of the value of their contribution. We are pleased that 'things' are progressing and that there is a light of sorts at the end of the tunnel. Take care you two and keep on keeping on. Kevin & Jude |
